"Current approach to protecting England’s coastal communities from flooding and erosion not fit for purpose as the climate changes"

The latest IPCC report has been issued and makes stark reading. See: http://www.ipcc.ch/report/sr15...

The IPPC Report was followed within days by the conclusions of the Committee on Climate Change (CCC) which said that a new, long-term approach to coastal management in England is urgently needed given the expected impacts of climate change. See: https://www.theccc.org.uk/2018...

The CCC went on to say that Shoreline Management Plans developed across the UK contained unrealistic assumptions about funding defences. According to Baroness Brown of Cambridge University, in coverage in The Times, it was unacceptable that people were buying homes on the coast without being informed of the risk.

The IPCC Report and CCC conclusions provide powerful support for NWTE's proposals for providing long-term coastal protection and predictable and secure renewable energy through a tidal lagoon scheme.
